Message from the New Argentine Ambassador to Australia, Máximo Gowland

Dear friends,

I am truly honoured to have been recently appointed by President Alberto Fernandez as the new Argentine Ambassador to the Commonwealth of Australia, where I have formally begun my tenure last December 8th after presentation of credentials before His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), Governor-General of Australia.

The friendship between Argentina and Australia is long-standing and multidimensional, and has seen us work together on countless issues, both bilaterally and in different multilateral fora.

Our common recognition of multiculturalism and the respect and defense of human rights as essential for a vibrant society, binds us together.

Our condition as very important agricultural exporting countries and the proud traditions of our regions have shaped our societies in very similar ways, and represent a solid foundation on which to further develop our economic and cultural ties.

Our position as gateways to Antarctica, and our unwavering commitment to maintaining this continent as an area focused on scientific cooperation and environmental protection, also constitute the basis for an important partnership in this unique region of our planet.

For all this, I look forward to furthering our partnership with Australia to take advantage of the many possibilities we have available for political, economic, scientific and cultural engagement, including in areas such as energy, agriculture, space, and many others.

It is for me a very great privilege and pleasure to be here in Australia to serve my country and my fellow Argentines. Together with our teams here at the Embassy in Canberra and at our Consulate General in Sydney, we look forward to working to achieve these goals.

My best wishes for the holidays and the coming year,

Ambassador Máximo E. Gowland
