The Argentine movie Man Facing Southeast will be screened on Tuesday 27 August, at 7:30pm, closing the festival.
This movie is considered one of the Argentine classics. Filmed in 1986, it has been recently restored to meet modern screening standards through the initiative led by the Association of Argentine Cinematographers and Audio-visual Digital Laboratory GOTIKA, a company that specializes in restoration and preservation of the national audio-visual heritage.
The movie relates about a mysterious man who signs himself into the psychiatric hospital. He claims to come from another planet to study humans and their behaviour. The new patient is gentle but criticizes humans for their harsh treatment of each other. His assigned psychiatrist, lonely and depressed, is working through his own unhappiness. He finds himself affected by his patient´s insight, but he is ordered to treat the patient according to institutional procedure. In the end, the man´s madness and his extraterrestrial origins seem to be equally strong possibilities; the educated, well-meaning psychiatrist is unable to choose between the two.
