Getting to Argentina

Telephones

Argentine cities have many public telephone booths. Public phones operate with 5, 10, 25, 50-cent and 1-peso coins and Phone cards that may be bought at any quiosco (sweet and tobacco stalls). These phones support urban, national and international calls. In addition to public phones, there are many communications centers (locutorios and telecentros) offering telephone, fax and internet services.
 
Calling to Argentina from abroad, dial the country code (54) and then the area code of the place you want to call. For domestic calls, dial 0 before the area code. For international calls, dial 00, the country code and city code.
Note that tariffs are reduced from 10.00 p.m. to 8.00 a.m.
 
How to call an Argentine cellphone from abroad:
 
After dialing the outside calls calling

+ 9 (=indicates it is a cellphone)
+ 11 (if Buenos Aires. For other area codes see list. Make sure not to dial any "0" that might be wrongly indicated as preceding this number. The zero only applies for domestic calls)

Currency
 
Print The Argentine currency is the peso ($). There are $ 100, $ 50, $ 20, $ 10, $ 5 and $ 2 notes, and 1, 0.50, 0.25, 0.10 and 0.05 cent coins.
The U.S. dollar is the most common foreign currency. Banks and casas de cambio (currency exchange offices), where you must present your passport, exchange foreign currency. Shops accept credit cards and dollars. 

Easy steps to get your refund

1. At the store: Shop where you see the Tax Free Shopping sign and ask for the refund cheque*

2. Through the argentinean customs: When leaving the country, show your receipts and purchases and have your Cheques Stamped
 
3. Collect your refund: Collect your refund in cash, through credit card or bank cheque.
