Llewellyn Choir's Concert 'Misa Criolla and Mass in Blue'

The Embassy is proud to sponsor the upcoming concert of the renowned Llewellyn Choir on Saturday, 2 September at 7.30pm in the Hughes Baptist Church (10 Groom St, Hughes, ACT).

The 80 Llewellyn singers will be joined by international soloists Sonia Anfiloff, Ben Connor and Michael Martin, and will be accompanied by the very versatile Llewellyn Sinfonia. Conducted by Rowan Harvey-Martin, the concert will feature Ariel Ramírez’s Misa Criolla and Will Todd’s Mass in Blue. Each of these pieces combines two very different musical traditions: in Misa Criolla the Catholic Mass meets the rhythms and traditions of Hispanic America; in Mass in Blue, the sung Mass - one of the oldest forms of European music - meets the blues.

Misa Criolla, composed in 1963, is one of the first masses ever to be celebrated in a modern language, after the Second Vatican Council gave permission for vernacular settings of the mass. Written by famous composer Ariel Ramírez, one of the finest exponents of Argentine folk music, Misa Criolla is an extraordinary and extremely popular choral work not to be missed!
