On May 18, 2016, in an event headed by the President of Argentina, Mr. Mauricio Macri, the Ministry of Energy and Mining launched an international tender for the generation of renewable energies, under the name of "RenovAr-Round 1 Programme".

The programme aims for the generation of 1.000 megawatts, from the following sources: 600 from wind energy, 300 from solar, 65 from biomass, 20 from small hydro plants and 15 from biogas; with an execution period of no more than 24 months and an estimated investment between 1.5 and 2 billion dollars.

Currently renewable energies supply 1.8% of the national energy demand and the new regulatory framework establishes the goal of reaching 4.5% in 2019 and 20% or 10,000 megawatts in 2025.
