On a day like today, 60 years ago, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the first resolution on the Question of the Falkland Islands, which recognizes the existence of a sovereignty dispute between Argentina and the United Kingdom over the Falklands, South Georgia and Sandwich from the South and surrounding maritime spaces.
Resolution 2065 (XX) constituted the first international recognition of this dispute, classifying it as a colonial situation that must be resolved through peaceful negotiations, respecting the principle of territorial integrity. This statement marked a diplomatic milestone and laid the foundation for subsequent United Nations resolutions on the Issue.
60 years after that momentous event, the Argentine Republic reaffirms its legitimate sovereignty rights over the Malvinas Islands, South Georgia and South Sandwich and the surrounding maritime spaces, while reiterating its willingness to resume sovereignty negotiations with the United Kingdom in the that continues to call us today by the international community.
